SOFTBALL 2019 – Softball Convenor - Tara Davis

I find it very hard to believe that it’s time to get in the gym to start preparing for the Softball season just around the corner! The Southdale Softball Program continues to be recognized as one of the top community-based softball programs in Winnipeg, that I for one am very proud to be a part of. This is due to the dedication of our volunteers, coaches and managers. One email requesting help brings volunteers out with rakes, shovels, shop vacs and compressors! It is because of this that we were able to successfully host the annual Southdale Softball Tournament and the U14B & U19B City Playoffs. Thanks to you all!

What a great season we had last year. What has become the annual Southdale Softball Tournament combined with the fair was bigger and better than ever, hosting a record 55 teams playing at 13 diamonds and over 100 games in 3 days. The smiles on the girl’s faces were confirmation that all our hard work paid off! Thanks to all the volunteers – it would not have been the success it was without all of you! A huge and special thank you to the Tournament Registrar Colleen Prokop, as well as s huge thank you to Donna Ross and Jill Mowbray for your tireless help on the weekend!

This past season more age groups participated in city-wide playoffs. This turned out to be successful once again, allowing for greater competition, and in the end, greater satisfaction when medals were won. Southdale hosted the U14B City playoffs with 7 Teams and the U19B City playoffs, hosting 3 teams.

Southdale Players looked sharp in their new Bonivital East jerseys and I am always proud to see girls wearing our Softball clothing throughout the year. Once again this season, once teams are formed, players will pick up their jerseys and have the opportunity to purchase Bonivital East clothing.

This past season teams celebrated much success during playoffs, tournaments and provincials. Congratulations to all teams well done!

Winter clinics will be starting in January and will run through until tryouts. Please refer to the Southdale Softball site for more information. There is no registration or fees required, just bring out your gloves, lace up your indoor shoes, join your friends and drop-in. Winter skills clinics are a great way to dust off the gloves and to warm up those ball muscles in preparation for tryouts. Consider attending the sessions for your age group.

Evaluations will be conducted for most ages to determine placement at the B level. Evaluation sessions will take place in late March and early April. To be considered you must attend evaluations. Watch the Southdale Softball site for tryout times.
